Asger Harbou Gjerdevik
Asger H. Gjerdevik, b. 1986 Denmark
Asger Harbou Gjerdevik works in an expressive tradition with painting, drawing and sculpture.
In his works he touches on themes such as loneliness, loss, desire and longing, but also humor and curiosity and he finds inspiration in literature, mythologies, the popular cultural reality and the everyday impressions.
Gjerdevik works from an investigative approach to various inspirations and ideas and explores possible new stories in a sampling and compilation of different materials and motifs that resemble the structure of the collage. Gjerdevik’s compositions contain both figurative and abstract figures just as he sometimes incorporates found three-dimensional objects and two-dimensional collage elements.
The works are created in a process that involves continuous additions of materials, interposed references, transformations and overlays. Often the results are both complex and boundless pictorial spaces or structures with potential for eternal change and new stories.
